Who Is That Girl?
I am Chantel Adedeji. Pronounced “Ah-day-day-gee”. It’s Nigerian. I’m Nigerian. I speak none of the languages and I’ve only been to the country twice, but I’m stubborn and proud, so that makes me plenty Nigerian.
Storytelling is in my DNA. Growing up, I watched so much television it practically raised me. Now, when I’m not watching T.V., I’m working on it.
A formally trained actress, I received my Bachelor’s in Dramatic Arts from the University of Southern California and studied at the British Academy of Dramatic Arts in London.
With my writing, I aim to question generic, conventional narratives and thoroughly dissect reality as we live it, mostly through humor and satire because sometimes we have to laugh to keep from crying!
Okay. I’m done now. Writing about myself in 1st person is anxiety-inducing.
“The role of the artist is exactly the same as the role of the lover. If I love you, I have to make you conscious of the things you don’t see.”- James Baldwin
